Jean-Michel Déprats, Assistant Professor then  Senior Lecturer at the University of Nanterre, taught in two departments: the Department of Anglo-American Studies and the Department of the Performing Arts. As a Shakespeare scholar, he wrote many articles in the field of Shakespearian theatre productions and on problems of translation. He has translated for the stage over thirty of Shakespeare’s plays, two Elizabethan and Jacobean Plays (Marlowe’s Edward II and Ford's 'Tis pity she's a whore), along with modern British, Irish and American playwrights, including Howard Barker, David Hare, J.M.Synge, Oscar Wilde and Tennessee Williams. For the cinema, he has subtitled and dubbed Kenneth Branagh’s Henry V, Franco Zeffirelli’s Hamlet and more recently (2015) Justin Kurzel's Macbeth. He started in 2002 a new bilingual edition of Shakespeare's Complete Works for Gallimard. Seven volumes of plays have already been published. The series will be completed in 2018 by an eighth volume of Sonnets and Poems.
